Frequently Asked Questions

What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapists help you do what is important to you! We assist with tasks you want, need, or expect to do. Your child may benefit from occupational therapy if you have any concerns about reaching developmental milestones, eating/feeding, behaviors, or school readiness. Sometimes, children need support to do activities like other children. We’re here to help.

What is Sensory Processing and/or Sensory Integration?
Sensory processing is a complex, neurological process that allows us to receive, interpret, and respond to various sensory stimuli. This results in behavioral or motor responses. The 8 senses our bodies are constantly monitoring and responding to include:
-
Gustatory (Taste) System
-
Olfactory (Smell) System
-
Visual System
-
Tactile System
-
Auditory System
-
Vestibular System - Sense of head movement in space
-
Proprioceptive - Sensations from muscles & joints in our bodies.
-
Interception - Sensations related to the physiological conditions of the body.
Sometimes, our children have difficulty processing this sensory input which may look like behaviors such as
-
Tantrums,
-
Picky Eating,
-
Covering their ears,
-
Rough housing,
-
Difficulty potty training,
-
And more.
